What to do in Perth as a single person?

by Danhy White

This week I asked my readers what they thought was the best thing to do in Perth for people who are single. Most of you agreed that it would be nice to meet up with other singles and go out in groups or on dates. There were also great suggestions for activities including karaoke, dancing (to live music or at clubs), walking/hiking, museums, cooking classes… the list goes on!

Now it’s over to you again – please keep the ideas coming! Please let me know any great places or activities that I missed so that others can benefit from your advice too. And if you’re already married – don’t think this thread is just for singles – you might be able to give some great ideas for gifts or date nights.

And now…. ready… set… go!

Hiking

-One reader suggested going camping and hiking in the Bibbulmun Track, which is a long distance walk from Kalamunda to Albany.

-Another mentioned Rottnest Island as a great place to hike.

-I just read an article about one couple who hiked the South Coast Track together and they had a blast!

Museums and Art Galleries

-I was surprised to hear that some people think art galleries are snobby – I’ve always loved them!

-There’s plenty of museums in Perth too.

-Here’s the link for the WA Museum: wamuseum.org.au/wamuseum/home/homepage New exhibits are added regularly so you’ll never get bored visiting again and again.

Dance Classes (Ballroom, Swing, Latin etc.)

-One reader suggested Swingworks for swing dancing lessons on King St in Northbridge. They also have other dance classes including ballroom, tango etc.

Coffee shops and cafes -One reader suggested going to a coffee shop or cafe on a Monday night as there’s usually specials, such as 2 for 1 meals at places like Little Creatures.

-These are some popular cafe chains with good deals: Bread in Common  and Coffee Club .

Food tours of Northbridge and Fremantle -You can spend hours exploring all the different cuisines available in so why not enjoy it even more by doing it with other people? A couple of readers mentioned food tours, so I looked it up and found this one: http://www.bestfoodtours.com.au/page_details/perth-city-food-and-cultural-tour/

Karaoke -I don’t think you can go wrong with karaoke! There are a few places that have been mentioned on the thread, but my personal favourite still has to be The Rosemount Hotel . It’s a great place to meet people too.

Live music – As well as the live music scene in Northbridge, there are plenty of other bars and pubs worth checking out. I’ve heard good things about The Cambridge , Vic on the Park (in Leederville) and The Rosemount Hotel (mentioned above).

Kununurra weekend trips  – It’s over 3 hours drive north, but an awesome way to escape Perth for a weekend. There are lots of reasons this town is talked about so much – it’s got beautiful beaches, great food, friendly people and even its own microclimate!

River Cruises (including the ‘voyages to nowhere’) – I like this idea because it’s a unique way to enjoy Perth and get out on the water. River cruises were mentioned by several people, and I think it could be a great way to pass some time.

And if you think you want some more excitement in your life apart from this, you can check out the Ivy Société escorts to make sure that you being single is a temporary measure.
